The Alameda County Central Railroad Society is a model railroad club.
We maintain two layouts (HO and O scale) at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California.
All through our layout you will find what we call Easter eggs. Easter eggs are little 'in' jokes we've added to our layouts. The HO scale layout virtual tour is a photo-intensive overview of what we've built in HO scale. A list of our upcoming public exhibition dates and times is useful if you need more reasons to visit the Fairgrounds.
We meet most Fridays from about 6:30 pm to 9:00pm. You're welcome to stop by for a visit anytime we're open.
Why Model Railroad? As with any hobby, the obvious answer is because it's fun! If you've made it this far, you're probably already interested in building a model railroad for some reason. But maybe you're still on the fence. After all, a model railroad requires an investment in time, money, and energy. Building a model railroad is a great family-oriented hobby. Everyone can get involved and everyone can participate "together". Every member of the family can be working on some part of things. Mom can be building this part, dad working on that, while the kids are working on something else. It is also a hobby that can last a life-time. Many people in the hobby started when they were kids and it stayed with them. Model Railroading can be very educational. You can learn a whole range of things from history, geography and the economics of railroading; basic carpentry, electrical and engineering; devlope, improve or fine tune skills like artistic techniques, logical thought and planning, 3D and Spatial visualization and manual dexterity; and model building. Model Railroading can be a very social hobby. Model railroading appeals to people in all walks of life. If you find a group of model railroaders, you'll find doctors and lawyers, engineers, shop keepers, business people, military folks, mechanics, carpenters, artists, atheletes, and politicians. Young and old, rich and poor. And it is fun!
We are accepting new members! If you're over the age of 12, grab a parent and come on down. If you're over 18, you don't need a parent (or maybe you are one) but you can bring one anyway. All we require for membership is an interest in the hobby and a willingness to participate; we can teach you anything you want to learn about the railroad modeling hobby. Dues are low; currently just $24 a year!
